The Rockets will keep their options open in terms of upgrading the roster via trade. At 34-year-old, his age may be enough reason for him to extend this summer. The value of the extension will increase if he chooses to extend next season since the salary cap and average salary are also expected to increase. Because the final year of his current contract is lower than the current average salary, he will be eligible to earn 120 percent of the estimated average salary, which could start him out at $11.4 million and total $37.2 million over three seasons.
